    Tips for Travelling to Israel

A visit to Israel will take your breath away in a true sense. It will be a refreshing vacation but more than that, you will return as a changed person in different ways. The country is beautiful without even a shade of doubt but it is equally – if not more – magnetizing for its cultural confluence, historical architectures and Jerusalem which is known as a sacred site for three sects – Jews, Christians and Muslims.

It will be quite normal for the Israel-bound travellers to get overwhelmed during their first-time visit to this country. Here are some simple tips to help them plan wisely and make the most of their memorable journey.

    Table of Contents

    • 1 Carry it light
    • 2 Dress Code
    • 3 Good Food
    • 4 Shopping Spree

    Carry it light

During your Israel trip, you will move between places a lot of times as there are many historical sites to explore. Will it be a practical idea to shoulder a heavy bag all around? Sling on a sachet and take another extra backpack to pack your necessities. These bags are roomy to accommodate plenty of things but make sure not to pack too heavy items.

Put your necessary items in a vacuum pouch as that will save a lot of space. After reaching the hotel, ask your room boy to get you a vacuum cleaner to secure pouched up things again. Stay away from packing too many toiletries as these are easily available in hotels. You can also buy them from nearby shops. The power supply in Israel is AC-50 cycles 220 volt and so you won’t have any problem with recharging your electrical gadgets.

    Dress Code

There is no strict dress code in Israel. However, if you are visiting holy places, you must be properly dressed. General Israelis are open-minded and don’t wear an orthodox attitude when it comes to dressing codes. However, there are some who expect women to be modestly dressed which means they must not wear a short skirt and sleeveless top. Take a shawl in your bag as it will be helpful to cover your bare legs and shoulder.

    Good Food

Another reason that could make your Israel trip most memorable one is a variety of delectable food. The country is famed for its mouth-watering spreads that will tease even the most jaded palate. Some must-try dishes are shawarma (sliced beef or lamb in pita), falafel (fried peas with salad), baklawa (sweetmeat), moussaka (baked eggplant with veggies and mean).  The most popular American fast food brands are also present in this country.

    Shopping Spree

Shopping in Israel is a real fun. A myriad of shops on either side of the road is selling beautiful items which are great to gift your near and dear ones. Most shops, especially the shopping malls accept credit cards though you should carry travel checks as well. For quick cash exchange, banks are the best option as you will get a low rate at hotels or money exchange offices.

Learn a few words in local language like Shalom (hello), todah (thank you) etc. The local people will appreciate your effort to speak their tongue and it will also help you converse with them, order food and bargain at shops.
