6 Tips That Will Help You Save Money On Your RV Road Trip In Italy

People all over the world are becoming more and more excited about camping with an RV. One of the best places to do so is in Italy. There are so many little cities that you can hop to, so much delicious food to be eaten, and so much scenery to be seen. While it may sound expensive, there are a few things you can do to keep the costs down.

    Table of Contents

    • 1 Try not to visit in the summer
    • 2 Smaller is better
    • 3 Research
    • 4 Unlimited mileage
    • 5 Visit multiple cities
    • 6 Purchase amenities beforehand

Try not to visit in the summer

While this may be a little tricky, visiting in summer means busy tourist season which means higher prices. The average campervan in Italy costs about $910 a week for the summer but will only cost you around $700 a week during the slower seasons. Plus, the weather can be very very hot during the summer so going in the spring or fall will bring cooler temps!

    Smaller is better

If you’re looking to travel with a small group (one or two people), aim to get a smaller camper. European roads are extremely narrow and winding, and gas is about $5 a gallon or so. The smaller the RV, the better the gas mileage and the smaller the tank which means you won’t spend an arm and a leg. Anything longer than 20 feet will become extremely pricey.

    Research

Before you rent your RV, do your research. There are a lot of websites that offer different pricing. Going through and seeing inventory and price will allow you to compare all the sites and find the best deal out there.

    Unlimited mileage

If you’re looking to stay in Italy for an extended period of time or drive long distances, look for an RV that has unlimited mileage. Many companies will charge you fees if you go over their set miles. And this can add up very quickly.

    Visit multiple cities

Now, you’re probably thinking that driving more means spending more money but one of the biggest advantages to driving through Italy in an RV is the chance to see more cities than you would if you had traveled by plane or train. You can roam around Rome, Venice, Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terre all while going as fast (or slow) as you want. If you tried to do this without an RV, figuring out all the transportation would not only be a headache, but it’d also be expensive.

    Purchase amenities beforehand

You might be surprised to find out that RVs in Europe do not come with sheets, towels, toiletries, soap, pillows, etc. Each company will give you the option to add them to your rental however they will do it at a price that is marked up. If you’re looking to save a little money, head to a market before your trip and stock up on necessities

Renting an RV in Europe is such a unique and unforgettable time. If you do your research and plan ahead, you can see the Italian countryside all while on a budget.
